Anti-Discrimination Laws

There are many laws that address employment discrimination and wrongful termination including:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964,
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
  • Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA),
  • Equal Pay Act,
  • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Oregon Medical Leave Act (OFLA),
  • 42 U.S.C. § 1983 (for public employees)
  • 42 U.S.C. § 1981 (racial discrimination)
  • and others, as well as many state laws under Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 659A.

Some of these laws require that the employer have at least 15 employees; and the total number of employees can affect the amount of money that can be recovered for discrimination or wrongful termination.  In addition, these laws have different statutes of limitations.  If you have an employment discrimination or wrongful termination claim you should contact an employment lawyer as soon as possible.

Public employees have special protections and statute of limitations involving a “tort claims notice.”
